Lathen announces candidacy for Colorado Springs Mayor

Amy Lathen announced her candidacy for Colorado Springs Mayor Monday.

Elected to office in 2008, Lathen currently represents El Paso County’s second district as commissioner.

In a news release, Lathen wrote, “It is time to UNLOCK the doors of the Mayor’s Office. It is time to move the Mayor’s Office to City Hall with City Council in order to begin real work and collaboration.”

Despite announcing earlier this year he would not run for a second term, a spokesperson for Mayor Steve Bach tells KRDO he has not made a final decision whether to run.

In addition, Colorado State Attorney General John Suthers has hinted at a bid for Colorado Springs Mayor.

Lathen’s term as county commissioner expires in 2017.

The election for Colorado Springs Mayor will be held in April 2015.
