Driver in crash that killed deputy sentenced

An 83-year-old man who caused a traffic crash that killed a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to six years in community corrections.

Kenneth Martin Hosch was sentenced Friday. The Golden man pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the Jan. 26 death of Sgt. Dave Baldwin.

Hosch told the judge he did not remember the crash and has struggled to accept that his mental abilities have declined. Authorities say he was going 79 mph in a 55 mph zone before he crashed head-on into Baldwin’s motorcycle.

The deputy was on duty and wearing a helmet at the time. He was a 27-year veteran of the department.

Community corrections means Bosch will serve his sentence outside a jail or prison. KMGH reports that he’ll give speeches about reckless driving.
