Pueblo trash haulers work to reverse city council’s decision

Trash haulers submitted petition signatures to the city clerk’s office Tuesday afternoon in the hopes of reversing city council’s decision to hire a trash consultant.

Becky Cortese, owner of C & C Disposal, told KRDO NewsChannel 13 she delivered about 4,000 signatures. Haulers need 2,239 verified signatures to get the question on the ballot in November.

“We have gotten a really good response from the city. They do not want our city council wasting their money and they do not want to be told who they will use as trash service,” Cortese said.

Last month, city council voted 4 to 3 to spend up to $50,000 on a consultant who will study the city’s illegal dumping problem and explore options for citywide trash service. The money would come from fees collected at the city’s landfill.

Council president Sandy Daff has previously said that hiring a trash consultant is an investment in the city’s future.
