Storm aftermath makes it a busy day for people in southern Colorado

Floodwater left its mark in southern Colorado.

Severe storms hit La Junta, which forced four different road closures.

For La Junta resident Bob Carrica, he said the heavy rain benefitted him.

“This is going to help with the growing of my grass again,” he said.

Other people, like Edward Muniz, weren’t so lucky.

“I happen to cross and the car got stuck in four feet of water and it started floating,” he said.

He spent the day recovering his vehicle. He had plants and other debris under the hood of his car, along with an orange tag on his antenna from Colorado State Patrol indicating for him to move his car in 48 hours.

But he wasn’t the only one who was stuck.

“A couple more cars, they tried getting through but they didn’t get by,” Muniz said.

Mike Shima works at a theatre in Rocky Ford. He said customers were running through the floodwater in front of his building to get home.

“The hard part was getting everyone to their vehicles safely,” he said.

Shima spent the day cleaning up the mess floodwater left behind.

Colorado State Patrol said there was one reported accident from the flood overnight.
