UPDATED: One person killed in Huerfano County crash

Colorado State Patrol says one person was killed in a two-car crash in Huerfano County Saturday morning (6/21/14).

The crash was reported around 7 a.m. Saturday. It happened on I-25 at MM 41, about 10 miles south of Walsenburg.

Troopers said that Sasha Chavez, 28, from Pueblo was driving north when she fell asleep. When she woke up, troopers said she veered back onto the road and then hit another car.

That car rolled and 37 year-old Sherridan Appell of Mesa, Arizona was killed. State Patrol reports that Appell was not wearing a seat belt. The driver and another passenger were taken to a Walsenburg hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
