Recreational marijuana on the November ballot in Colorado Springs?

If you live in Colorado Springs, you could see recreational marijuana on the ballot again this November.

During a city council work session this week (6-9-14) the Colorado Springs city attorney was asked to draft an ordinance asking voters if recreational weed should be regulated in the same way as alcohol sales. While Mayor Steve Bach is not in favor of recreational pot sales, others see it as a way to fix the cities budget woes and create job growth.

“So we have a unique opportunity to get control of this and bring it in the world where we can make some money from it so we can pay for exactly what they were talking about here today. The storm water, potholes, roads and bridges,” said Mark Slaugh with Every Vote Counts.

As for Bach, he has a different opinion. “I continue not to support recreational sales of marijuana in Colorado Springs for one reason and that’s the impact on jobs. I’m very worried about what that would do in terms of both our jobs in the private sector and military,” he said.

City council will address recreational marijuana at its next work session on June 23. The topic could be voted on as soon as June 24.
