Tornado touches down in Las Animas County

Severe thunderstorms were widespread across eastern Colorado Friday with numerous warnings issued for tornadoes.

One of the tornadoes touched down near Trinidad in Las Animas County.

The twister mostly tore through open field, but it did snap 5 or 6 power poles, forcing the closure of highway 160 about 13 miles outside of Trinidad.

The road was reopened once downed power lines and other debris were cleared from the highway.

Elsewhere, a tornado that touched down in Weld County northeast of Denver uprooted trees, downed power lines, broke windows on a barn and tore the roof from a shed.

No injuries were reported following Friday’s storms.
