Damage estimates for Black Forest Fire increase

New insurance damage estimates that losses in the Black Forest Fire now total $420.5 million.

The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association reported that information Thursday. The organization reports that there were 4,173 auto and homeowners claims. That is about a $128 million dollar increase from the preliminary damage estimate of $292.8 million estimated in the initial weeks after the fire.

That still ranks the Black Forest Fire as the second most costly in state history, the association reports. Damage from the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire cost $460.3 million, making that the most expensive fire ever in Colorado.
