Old Stage Rd to remain closed until work is finished

Drivers will have to wait a few more months to use Old Stage Road in El Paso County again.

The road was the worst-hit in the county by the floods last fall. The heavy rain washed out parts of the road.

“The road basically had become the creek,” county engineer Andre Brackin said.

Crews have repaired the major damage, now they’re ready to begin drainage work. They plan to replace six culverts along a more than 1-mile stretch.

“You can definitely drive the road right now, it does not look like it needs anything,” Brackin said. “But the fact is, that when the next rain comes, it’ll blow out again unless we do something.”

The new culverts will be sturdier, bigger than the current ones and made out of concrete. County engineers hope to finish the work by late July, weather permitting.
