Vandals hit Benjamin Elementary School

Vandals have struck an elementary school in Pueblo, forcing it to shut down on Tuesday.

Students were sent home from Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.

School District 60 spokesman, Scott Jones said a fire extinguisher went off Monday night at the school. Pueblo police are investigating the incident as vandalism and a possible burglary case.

After staff discovered the fire extinguisher had gone off 460 students were sent home.Faculty worried that the discharge from the extinguisher would affect students with respiratory problems.

Amother of a District 60 student saidher son told her a camera had been stolen and windows were broken.

“This is definitely a lesson for the children. When you see this it’s very sad. It’s a bad example but I’m sure they’ll know better to do something like that. They see what it does to everybody else and what it means for their school,” Ashley Frashuer.

Pueblo police are still investigating.
