AFA briefly closes gate after driver fails to stop for ID check

Traffic was snarled for drivers trying to get off of the Air Force Academy Monday morning (4/28/14) after a driver failed to stop for a routine identification check.

The incident happened at 11:59 a.m.

The Academy says a green Toyota 4 Runner entered through the south gate without stopping.

An alert was put out for the SUV and the gate was briefly closed. Identification checks were also implemented for drivers leaving the academy for a time, which contributed to the jam up.

The vehicle was eventually found trying to leave through the academy’s north gate.

The driver said he was just visiting and was not aware that he was supposed to stop before driving onto the academy.
