Parents of Aurora victims slam Rep. Mike Coffman

Parents of two people killed in the Aurora theater shooting are calling on Rep. Mike Coffman to support universal background checks.

Coffman opposes a bill in Congress that would expand background checks to almost anyone purchasing a firearm. The parents of Jessica Ghawi and Alex Sullivan on Wednesday said that Coffman deserves to be voted out of office if he maintains that position.

Universal background checks were defeated by a filibuster in the U.S. Senate last year after the Newtown shooting. They are unlikely to pass the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

Coffman, a Republican, faces one of the toughest re-election campaigns of any member of congress. His Democratic opponent, Andrew Romanoff, supports expanding background checks.
