CAPS Volunteer of the Year recognized

Hundreds of volunteers gave thousands of hours of volunteer time to the Colorado Springs police and fire departments this year. Monday, those volunteers were recognized.

Seventeen volunteers were nominated for the volunteer of the year award.

Barbara Trombley won.

She’s put in more than 8,300 volunteer hours since she started volunteering it more than a decade ago after she retired.

While she is the one with her name on the award, she says that it’s about everyone who gives their time.

“I’m not in this alone, you know, all these people deserve the award. I work with teams of people and every one of them contribute to what we do,” she said.

Trombley also mentors other volunteers in the Cold Case Unit, helping them to accurately digitize the datathe unit gathers.
