Tancredo 1st Republican to make governor ballot

Former Congressman Tom Tancredo is the first Republican to make primary ballots for the chance to challenge Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.

Colorado’s secretary of state said Wednesday that Tancredo turned in sufficient petitions to earn a place on GOP primary ballots. One other Republican hopeful – former congressman Bob Beauprez – has turned in signatures and awaits a decision.

Statewide Colorado candidates have two options to make primary ballots. They can either turn in petition signatures from each of the state’s seven congressional districts or win a place through votes in their party’s state assembly.

Five other Republican gubernatorial hopefuls are seeking support at the state assembly, which takes place Saturday in Boulder.

The primary elections are held June 24.
