Ex-Colorado fire chief pleads guilty to theft

The former chief of the Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District has pleaded guilty to stealing from the department when he was in charge.

The district attorney said in a statement that 41-year-old David MacBean entered his plea to two counts of theft and one count of embezzlement during a court appearance Monday. Sentencing was set for June 24. MacBean, who has agreed to pay restitution, remains free on a $40,000 bond.

Prosecutors say that between January 2010 and March 2013, MacBean made unauthorized purchases using the department’s credit card and bank accounts. He was indicted by a grand jury in October 2013.
