A Colorado Springs woman who stabbed her mother-in-law to death has been sentenced to more than four decades behind bars.

Judge Barbara Hughes sentenced Ellyzabeth Joy Rainey to 41 years in prison for the murder of Deborah Rainey on April 4, 2014.

The crime happened on April 3, 2013 at the Tanager Meadows Apartments, near E. Fountain Blvd. and S. Murray Blvd.

Rainey, who is now 20 years old, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on January 31, 2014 according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.

The Gazette reported that Deborah Rainey was visiting from San Francisco when her daughter-in-law poured boiling water on her, stabbed her, beat her with weights then poured bleach down her throat.
