City updates Camp Creek flood mitigation efforts

The City of Colorado Springs is encouraging everyone to be ready for another summer of flash flooding from the Waldo Canyon burn scar.

The city’s office of emergency management hosted a flash flooding preparedness meeting on Wednesday evening at The Castle at Glen Eyrie.

The meeting provided updated information about the danger, what’s being done to mitigate the threat and what home owners can do to protect their property.

A National Weather Service spokesperson talked about how they issue flash flood warnings vs. watches and the differences between the two. She told homeowners that the NWS is getting a better idea of how rains affect the burn scar and hope to give people more lead time in case of a flood.
