Powerful wind gusts cause damage, fan fire fears

The National Weather Service issued warnings for high winds and fire danger Monday (3/31/14) as the gusts reached hurricane force in some areas.

StormTracker 13 Meteorologist Rachael Plath says wind gusts ranging from 60 mph just north of Colorado Springs to 75 mph just south of the United States Air Force Academy were common across northern El Paso County. A 90 mph gust was recorded near Wolf Creek Pass.

A High Wind Warning that was issued for the Colorado Springs area overnight was allowed to expire at 10 a.m.

Red Flag Warnings for high fire danger continue until 6 p.m. for most of southern Colorado, including southern El Paso County and Pueblo County.

Only minor wind damage has been reported so far.
