Mom whose sons overheated in SUV to be sentenced

Family and friends of a woman found guilty of fatal child abuse in the deaths of her two young sons are asking a judge for leniency when she’s sentenced Friday in Grand Junction.

Heather Jensen’s sons overheated after she left them alone in her SUV in November 2012 while she met a man in a nearby vehicle. She was convicted in January but a jury acquitted her of criminally negligent homicide.

The Daily Sentinel reports that more than a dozen supporters sent letters to Judge Valerie Robinson. Cynthia Fenster of Grand Junction wrote that a prolonged sentence would compound Jensen’s grief.

Prosecutors are asking the judge to consider allegations that Jensen failed drug tests while she was on probation for a previous case – a domestic violence incident with her late husband.
