Teen tells police he fired gun at would-be burglars

A 14-year-old Pueblo boy told police he believes he shot one of three men who broke into his house while he was home alone Wednesday (1/15/14).

The incident happened at 3:25 p.m. in the 700 block of E. 2nd Street.

The teen told police he heard someone in the house, so he grabbed a handgun and started firing. He says three men broke into the home and he believes that he shot one of them.

Officers found that the back door was kicked in and the power to the house had been
shut off. The investigation found no blood or other evidence of anyone having been
wounded. Police searched the neighborhood and checked with local hospitals for people suffering from gunshot wounds, but none were found.

The Pueblo Police Department says there has been a rash of burglaries on the east side of the city recently. They say the burglars typically park in an alley, then knock on the front door to see if anyone is home. If there is no answer, they go around to the back door, kick it in, and go inside the house.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident, you are urged to call Pueblo
Police at 719-553-2502 or Pueblo Crime Stoppers 719-542-STOP (7867).
