Construction project to slow drivers this weekend

Construction activities for Colorado Springs Utilities’ drought mitigation project will close the intersection of Fillmore Street and Centennial Boulevard this weekend.

The intersection will close Friday evening through at least Monday morning, according to Colorado Springs Utilities spokesperson Steve Berry. The entrances to the King Soopers shopping plaza will remain open.

The work marks the final stretch of pipe installation. Pipelines will connect the Pikeview Reservoir near I-25 and Garden of the Gods Road to the Mesa Water Treatment Plant near Mesa Road and Fillmore Street. The project is estimated to be complete in March.
