National Western to honor slain Colo. student

A suburban Denver high school student shot to death by a classmate will be celebrated at the National Western Stock Show and Complex, which will host a memorial for family and friends.

The family of 17-year-old Claire Davis says the memorial will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 1 at the events center. The stock show will also rename an event the “Claire Davis Memorial Gambler’s Choice Horse Show” for 2014.

Davis competed in a horse event at the stock show earlier this year, and was scheduled to compete next month.

Davis died Saturday. She was shot Dec. 13 at Arapahoe High School. Authorities say the classmate committed suicide.

The events center also plans a moment of silence prior to all ticketed horse shows. The stock show runs from Jan. 11-26.
