Health insurance deadline looms in Colorado

Just one more shopping day left, Colorado. Not for Christmas. For health insurance.

Colorado’s health insurance shopping website is braced for a rush of customers on the final day to enroll for coverage starting the New Year.

The state-run subsidized private insurance exchange says new customers must enroll by Monday to guarantee coverage Jan. 1. People won’t face penalties for not having insurance until March 31.

The exchange is called Connect for Health Colorado. Administrators are braced for a heavy day of sign-ups.

Enrollment in Colorado has so far been slow, even though the state hasn’t experienced the kinds of computer problems seen elsewhere.

The exchange says consumers who pick a new plan by Monday have until Jan. 10 to make their first insurance payment.
