Colorado Springs signs 5-year ambulance service deal

American Medical Response will remain the official provider of ambulance service in Colorado Springs.

The city announced it has signed a 5-year contract with AMR. It will take effect on April 1, 2014.

AMR currently serves Colorado Springs and much of the rest of El Paso County as part of the Emergency Services Agency, or ESA.

The city says contracting with AMR individually is a better deal for taxpayers than remaining a part of the ESA. The deal is also expected to mean improved response times for portions of Briargate, Stetson Hills, Broadmoor Bluffs, Rockrimmon, Mountain Shadows and Peregrine.
