Colorado Springs woman accused of drowning 5-year-old son

An autopsy has determined that a boy who was thought to have died in an apartment fire actually drowned.

Colorado Springs police arrested Shannon Dodson, 42, in connection with her son’s death. She’s accused of first-degree murder.

The victim has been identified as Jude Marray-Gomez.

Friday’s fire was at the Hill Park Apartments on Murrary Blvd. near Pikes Peak Ave.

Firefighters said the mother and son were both taken to the hospital but did not indicate the extent of her injuries.

According to Colorado Springs police, this is the 29th homicide of 2013.

Detectives with the CSPD Violent Crimes Unit and the District Attorney’s Office are working together on the case.
