Gov. John Hickenlooper is announcing a new Colorado Supreme Court justice to replace retiring Chief Justice Michael Bender.

The Democratic governor will announce his pick Friday afternoon at the state Capitol. It will be his second appointment to the state’s high court.

Bender is set to retire Jan. 7.

Hickenlooper’s first appointment to the court happened in 2011, when he selected Brian Boatright to fill a vacancy.
