Woman who bought Ebel’s gun to plead guilty

The woman accused of giving Evan Ebel a gun that was used to kill the Colorado corrections chief plans to plead guilty.

In a court filing Thursday, a lawyer for Stevie Marie Vigil said she intends to plead guilty to giving a firearm to a felon without any concessions from federal prosecutors.

Lawyer Daniel Smith said he couldn’t discuss why she was changing her plea.

Even though there is no plea deal, a guilty plea could help Vigil gain a lighter sentence. The 22-year-old faces a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors haven’t indicated what sentence they’ll seek.

Investigators believe Ebel was involved in the slayings of both corrections chief Tom Clements and Nathan Leon, a computer technician and pizza deliveryman killed two days before.
