Governor’s helicopter becomes rescue chopper

Colorado’s governor and congressional delegation took time out from an aerial survey of massive flood damage to chip in on the rescue effort.

The politicians were aboard a National Guard helicopter Saturday touring areas hit by the state’s most extensive flooding in years.

Gov. John Hickenlooper tweeted news of the first rescue – four people, a dog and a cat – and then two more people soon after. The governor said they were dropped off in Loveland.

Helicopters and truck convoys have rushed to evacuate thousands of people stranded in the Rocky Mountain foothills due to flooding set off by torrential rains this week.
