New Colo. AD eligible for around $8.5M in bonuses

The University of Colorado’s new athletic director will be eligible to earn millions in bonuses over the next five years.

Under the contract approved by university regents Wednesday, Rick George can earn up to around $8.5 million by earning bonuses for things such as improving academic performance, hitting fundraising goals and filling the stands at Folsom Field.

The Daily Camera reports that some of the bonuses are long shots. The former Texas Rangers executive can earn a bonus if all of the school’s teams win championships for five straight years.

George, who served as assistant athletic director during Hall of Fame coach Bill McCartney’s tenure, will earn a base salary of $700,000. That’s the highest-ever salary for an administrator at the school.

He starts Monday.
