Ellicott Neighbor’s Heroism Saves Kids
Gary Leggiere was relaxing in his home when he heard an explosion.
“I heard a boom, it woke me up because I was fallling asleep in my chair.”
Leggiere rushed from his house.
Neighbors were following him with hoses and buckets full of water .
They went through the houses fence to find two kids andan adultwith burns on their bodies.
Leggiere and the rest of the community quickly put out the fire before firefighters arrived.
Ellicot Fire Chief NellieRoop was impressed with the neighbor’scourage.
“I think they did a very good job,they came together, they worked really hard together and even though it was a chaoticmess they got things taken care of.”
El Paso County Sherriffs say the adult went to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, while the two kids were transported to Children’s Hospital in Denver. They have been released from the hospital.
The fire was accidental.
Leggiere says if neighbor’s didn’t respond, the situation may have been worse.
“Thank god no one was killed.”
Firefighters say problems with a propane tank caused the fire.
