SUV crashes into Hayden classroom, no one injured

Structural engineers were headed Wednesday to Hayden Middle School in Routt County to gauge damage from a large vehicle crashing into a classroom.

School principal Gina Zabel says no students or teachers were in the building Tuesday when a 1998 Ford Expedition crashed through a fence and slammed through the brick wall of a classroom.

The SUV also hit two pickups, some parked cars and light pole before ramming into the classroom. The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports that nobody, including the driver, suffered any serious injuries.

The Expedition driver was issued a summons for careless driving.

Students return Sept. 3, but it wasn’t immediately clear whether the school would be repaired by then.
