Petitions turned in on Fort Collins fracking pause

Supporters of a five-year moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in Fort Collins have submitted petitions to try to put the proposal on the November ballot.

The Coloradoan reports Representatives of Citizens for a Healthy Fort Collins turned in petitions Monday with 8,052 signatures. The city clerk’s office is verifying whether supporters collected at least 3,907 valid signatures of registered city voters before the proposal can appear on the ballot.

In Broomfield, city officials are verifying whether petitioners submitted enough valid signatures to ask voters about a five-year ban on hydraulic fracturing there.

This November, Lafayette voters will be asked whether to ban new oil and gas extraction there. Loveland voters will be asked to consider a two-year moratorium on fracking.
