Authorities investigate Colorado dog mutilation

Authorities say a man found the severed head of a dog at a park in a small town in Colorado and are looking into what led to the decapitation.

The Aspen Daily News reports the head was found in El Jebel, south of Glenwood Springs and about 175 miles west of Denver.

Authorities say the rest of the animal’s body has not been found, and there is no evidence another animal was responsible.

The remains have been turned over to Eagle County Animal Services, which is handling the investigation.

The man says he found the carcass lying on the grass east of the tennis courts at Crown Mountain Park. He was not identified.
