Littleton cop arrested, facing drug charges

A longtime Littleton police officer is facing federal drug charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that Jeffery Johnston was arrested at his home in Parker on Friday. He’s scheduled to be advised of the charges pending against him in federal court in Denver on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for Littleton police, Cmdr. Trent Cooper, said Johnston is on unpaid administrative leave. Johnston is a motorcycle officer who worked on traffic control and accident investigations. Cooper says there’s nothing to indicate that Johnston’s alleged involvement with drugs had anything to do with his job.

Johnston has been with the department for 22 years. It wasn’t immediately clear he has a lawyer.

Prosecutors say no details about the case will be released until after Johnston’s 2 p.m. court appearance.
