Surviving Royal Gorge buildings to be preserved

The state historical society has pledged $40,000 to help preserve three stone buildings and the Incline Railway at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park.

The Pueblo Chieftain reported that the stone buildings are the only remaining historical structures there besides the bridge following the June 11 Royal Gorge Fire.

One of the buildings housed the Incline Railway’s operating equipment. Another once housed an ice cream shop, and the third was a caretaker’s cabin.

The buildings were built in 1931 along with the incline.
