Life sentence in slaying of woman in wheelchair

A man who fatally stabbed a woman in a wheelchair in Aurora has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Twenty-two-year-old Shawn Lewis Lopez was sentenced after pleading guilty Friday to first-degree murder in the death of 67-year-old Francine Reade.

He also pleaded guilty to attempted escape from community corrections in a previous drug case and was sentenced to six more years in prison.

Reade was found stabbed in the neck April 25. According to court documents, Lopez told police he had pushed her behind a building at a shopping center and decided to rob and kill her. District Attorney Dave Young says evidence showed Lopez said he wanted to know what it was like to kill someone.
