Canon City councilman pleads not guilty to assault

A Caon City Councilman has pleaded not guilty to harassing an older couple.

The Canon City Daily Record reports Colby Katchmar pleaded not guilty Friday to third-degree assault against an at-risk adult, misdemeanor harassment and disorderly conduct as a petty offense.

Katchmar was charged after 70-year-old Robert Martin and his wife, Margene, alleged Katchmar called them foul names and tried to block them from leaving a business May 30. Artist Thomas Lockhart says he saw the couple attacking Katchmar and stepped in to help.

Margene Martin sustained a hip fracture and a welt under her eye.

Lockhart faces charges of second-degree assault against an at-risk adult and third-degree assault of an at-risk adult.

Pueblo Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Zamarripa is acting as a special prosecutor in the case.
