Ruling expected on Colo. senators’ recall efforts

A judge is expected to rule whether two Democratic senators facing recalls over their support for new Colorado gun restrictions will face voters soon, or if their legal challenge can stop the proceedings.

Denver District Court Robert Hyatt is set to issue a ruling Thursday afternoon on whether a preliminary injunction is necessary.

Colorado Springs Senate President John Morse and Pueblo Sen. Angela Giron argue the recall petitions against them are invalid because they were improperly worded and didn’t ask for an election to appoint a successor.

Supporters of the recall maintain their petitions are valid. The Secretary of State’s office has agreed and is seeking a court order to force Gov. John Hickenlooper to set an election date. That ruling is also expected Thursday.
