Investigators say Fox Run fires set on purpose

The El Paso County Sheriff’s office says someone intentionally started two fires in Fox Run Regional Park.

Jared Rising says he reported the fires Tuesday afternoon in the north end of the park near Baptist Road.

“After the hill I saw smoke, I went to this point and saw flames,” Rising said. “It was startling but I didn’t hesitate to call 9-1-1.”

The fires were quickly put out by firefighters.

The sheriff’s office says the fires are considered separate incidents, were human caused, and set on purpose.

Rising says he saw a man with short brown hair, wearing a white t-shirt and pants walking away from where the fires were.

“That was the only person I saw,” Rising said. “It just seemed weird.”

Anyone caught starting fires intentionally could be charged with arson.

Sheriff Terry Maketa is asking the public to stay on high alert and to report suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about Tuesday’s fires is asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-5555.
