Stolen property recovered, police searching for rightful owners

Thousands of items ranging from heirlooms, a violin, jewelry, and even an almost forgotten moment of NBA great Michael Jordan have been recovered by Colorado Springs police.

Police say most of the stolen items were taken during home burglaries in Colorado Springs and El Paso County over the last two years.

One man in custody, whose name is not being released, is linked to seven home burglary cases in the last two years said Sgt. Gary Frasier of the Colorado Springs police.

These items, police say, are collectibles and sentimental value pieces in police storage worth $200,000, waiting to be reclaimed by their rightful owners.

“The thing I think is the most unique here, that we would really like to be able to find the owner for is a Bible from the 1850s,” said Fraiser.

Since the arrest in May, Fraiser said, 27 victims have walked through the police storage and identified items that were stolen from their homes.

“It is just great to see how happy these people are to get things back they thought they would never see again,” said Frasier. “This is the fun part of the job.”
