More mudslides as rain pelts Colorado burn areas

Mudslides have closed a 14-mile stretch of Colorado 14 west of Ted’s Place northwest of Fort Collins, as rain pelts an area burned by the High Park Fire last year.

The National Weather Service says radar shows up to two inches of rain fell within an hour Friday afternoon in the area.

Meanwhile near Boulder, automated rain gauges show up to 0.8 inches of rain fell within 90 minutes in the northwest part of an area burned in 2010 by the Fourmile Fire.

Soils burned by wildfires can repel water, leading to mudslides and flash floods.
