Denver considers additional marijuana tax

The Denver City Council is considering asking voters to approve an additional tax on recreational marijuana to cover the costs of regulation.

That would be in addition to a ballot measure in November asking Colorado voters to approve a 15 percent excise tax plus a 10 percent statewide sales tax on all retail marijuana purchases.

The Denver Post reports marijuana advocates are worried that excessive taxes could destroy the whole idea around voter-approved recreational marijuana use.
