Shooting victim identified, death ruled homicide.

Police have identified a man who was found shot to death near Helen Hunt Falls Friday.

The victim is 20-year-old Ishmal Mitchell.

Police were called to the 2200 block of N. Cheyenne Canyon Road around 8:30 Friday night. The initial report was for a “man down.” When officers arrived, they found Mitchell shot multiple times.

Mitchell was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police have arrested 33-year-old Brandon Cockrell. He’s facing first-degree murder charges.

This is the 17th homicide in Colorado Springs so far in 2013. At this time last year there were 12.
