Wear red Friday hero: Firefighters to the rescue

The heroes who put their lives on the line to fight the Black Forest Fire are our Wear Red Friday Heroes.

That includes Hanover Fire Chief Carl Tatum. He’s got two men with boots on the ground fighting the fire.

“They can’t believe the devastation that has occured..that’s the hardest thing we couldn’t do more to stop it.” he said.

Chief Tatum and his crew are part of a firefighting force from as far away as Steamboat Springs.

American Medical Response’s Laura Saenz is also on the front lines in this disaster.

“The worst one I heard is of a bridge that needed to be crossed..there was much smoke..it was so thick..they were crawling on their hands and knees.”

Michael Lafon is an evacuee who echoes what we’re all thinking.

“They’re heroes. They’ve been saving houses.” he said.

In the air and on the ground, our wear red Friday heroes, and their work, isn’t over yet.
