Colo. governor goes to bat for ammunition limit

Gov. John Hickenlooper is telling a federal court that the gun-control package he signed earlier this year should remain in effect.

In a Monday court filing, Hickenlooper asked a federal judge to allow a limit on ammunition magazines to go into effect as interpreted by the attorney general. Gun advocates say the law is broader than the attorney general’s interpretation and should be struck down.

The governor is trying to fend off a legal challenge from a group of sheriffs and gun-rights activists that the ammo limit is too vague and infringes on constitutional rights of gun ownership. The sheriffs say it’s a federal question of Second Amendment rights. The governor wants the matter narrowed to a state case over the interpretation of the law.
