Commissioners vote to ignore gun laws

Weld County will not follow or enforce Colorado’s new gun control measures, KMGH reported Monday.

Weld County Commissioners voted unanimously to ignore the the laws which were passed by the state Legislature and signed by Gov. John Hickenlooper earlier this year.

Weld County commissioners have been extremely vocal about their opposition to the increased gun control. Last week they unveiled a push to join other northern Colorado counties in seceding from the Centennial State, and forming a new state called North Colorado. Colorado’s gun control laws were cited as one of the justifications for organizing a new state.

Weld County Sheriff John Cooke has also vocally opposed the new laws.

Cooke, along with El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa and 52 other Colorado sheriff’s have filed a lawsuit against the state to block the laws.
