Remembering SSG Nunez Rodriguez

Under gray clouds on Thursday afternoon, Soldier’s Memorial Chapel at Fort Carson was nearly filled to remember a fallen hero. Staff Sgt Joe Abraham Nunez Rodriguez was being honored. He was killed on May 30th in Afghanistan after his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device.

Specialist Katherine Griego talked about the man she served with, “He was a great leader and it didn’t matter what unit or platoon you were with. If you needed anything, he was there. He was always there to let you know that you weren’t alone. Whether you were spiritual or not, someone was always there with you, next to you and guiding you.”

Staff Sgt Nunez Rodriguez was assigned to 32nd Transportation Company, 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division.

He’d served four tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. 29 year old Staff Sgt Nunez Rodriguez is survived by his Mother and his ex-wife.
