Stepdaughter of slain man charged with killing him

A Widefield woman is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the death of her stepfather.

Dawn Richburg is one of three people linked to to the murder of Miguel Barajas.

Barajas, 47, was found shot to death at a home in the 100 block of Judson Street on Feb. 13.

Richburg lived in the home with Barajas. On the night of the murder, she called 911 to report that she came home to find someone had broken into her house according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies found Barajas’ body inside.

In May, the sheriff’s office announced it had gathered enough evidence to arrest Richburg in connection with the killing. Barajas’ wife, Sandra Barajas, 52, and a mutual acquaintance, Tommy Wright, 34, were also arrested.

“We think that these folks planned or in some way conspired to commit this crime,” Lt. Jeff Kramer, of the sheriff’s office, told KRDO NewsChannel 13 shortly after the arrests were announced. “The charges also mean someone offered or was willing to commit the crime, as well.”

Sandra Barajas and Tommy Wright are also facing first-degree murder charges.
