Bluebell Fire prompts evacuations in Evergreen

Sheriff’s officials are evacuating some homes in the foothills of Evergreen, about 30 miles west of Denver, due to a small fire that is threatening about 100 homes.

Residents within four miles of Bluebell Circle were told to leave immediately Monday afternoon.

Jefferson County sheriff’s officials sent about 9,900 emergency calls, but it isn’t known exactly how many people are affected by the evacuations because some homes receive calls to multiple numbers. Sheriff’s officials in neighboring Clear Creek County say some homes have lost power, and they are going door to door to evacuate some homes.

Sheriff’s officials say about four acres have burned. A helicopter is dropping water on the scene.

Meanwhile in southwest Colorado, a 75-acre fire near Creede is 50 percent contained.
