Convicted killer sentenced to life in prison
A man who was convicted of raping and murdering a mentally disabled woman has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Jose Burciaga Ruiz, 58, was convicted of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and sexual assault on May 3.
His victim, Sharon Lee Sklavos, was mentally disabled. Her partially nude body was found in the summer of 1994.
Cold case work by detectives and DNA evidence linked Burciaga Ruiz to the crime.
